Cimaja and the surrounding areas are blessed with world class waves that can handle all kinds of swell sizes and directions. West Java is known for picking up more swell than many other parts of Indonesia so you will often get fun size waves in the off-season (December – March) as well as the more serious surf during the on-season months (April – November).
CBC is located between two right-handers, Cimaja Point and Indicators. The point works well on all tides, with testing barrels at low and fun walls at high. It breaks on boulders so it can be a little tricky getting in and out of the water but it’s the perfect wave to improve your surfing skills. Indicators is for advance surfers only and is a challenging, dangerous wave that starts breaking when the surf reaches 6ft and above. It breaks onto a shallow reef and will test even the most experienced surfers.
Beach breaks at Samudra and Sunset are great for beginners and there are two other decent right hand point breaks, Cikembang and Karang Haji within 20 minutes of the resort. Sawarna is a quality left-hand reef break that handles large swell and Loji is like a perfect wave pool but only works a few times in the year.
Customers often enjoy combining a trip to Cimaja with a few days in Turtles (three hours away) to surf a barreling left or big wave spot, Ombak Tujuh. There are numerous other slabs and secret spots down there and basic accommodation is easy to find. The magical Panaitan Island is also within touching distance and our guides will arrange a fishing boat to take you and your friends on the trip of a lifetime.
CBC can provide surf lessons for beginners or customers wanting to improve their skills and our instructors will take you to different spots depending on the conditions. We keep the lessons really cheap (Rp250,000 for two hours) so that anyone who visits can experience surfing. We also have surfboards and scooters for rent and would be happy to help point you in the right direction for anything else you might need.
We find the most accurate surf report to be through MagicSeaweed and if you are serious about your surfing we recommend opening an account with them. Cimaja now has the advanced forecast (account holders only) and you can look into details such as the energy of the ocean and number of different swells at one time. Of course it’s always best to wake up and check what the surf is doing but here is a link if you would like to see what to expect.
